TITLE: Classroom Assistant for Exceptional Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required.
Sufficient communicative skills to use appropriately with the students, teachers, and parents in the assigned area
Knowledge of the characteristics of children with handi-capping conditions for whom he/she has direct responsibility i.
e.
, learning, physical, and emotional characteristics and individual differences.
Required score on the Workkeys test.
Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the performance responsibilities listed below.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist in the instructional process and to assist in keeping anecdotal records, charting academic progress, and managing student behaviors as determined by the teacher.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs instructional tasks as assigned by the teacher, i.
e.
, reinforcement activities of a concept that has been initially introduced by the teacher.
Performs non-teaching duties as requested by the teacher for the development of language, reading, math, motor skills, and other areas of prescribed weaknesses.
This may include duplicating of materials, grading of papers, filing, and etc.
Assists in the general supervision of classroom management and student activities.
Assists in therapy, health care, appliance/special equipment maintenance, and assists in putting students on/off bus.
Attends training sessions designed for assistant orientation to improve performance or individual effectiveness.
Other duties as requested.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 day-work agreement; CA20 salary scale.
Salary and work year to be established by the district.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
